Occasionally, when upgrading Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro using a legitimate key you’ll get the follow message:
If you’ve confirmed your key is correct, and legitimate and should work here’s a solution you should try to get around this bug:
- Locate the Windows 10 Generic/Default license key online. These are Keys from Microsoft that allow you to install a specific version of Windows 10 without actually activating it. You’ll need the specific one for your version, if Home, Pro or Enterprise.
- Disconnect your Internet.
- Activate using the Generic/Default license key, this will fail bit this is expected.
- Reconnect the internet.
- Activate with the correct key.
We’ve observed this issue on Windows 10 1909 but it may be present on other versions too.
