III. Educate and Control Access

Secure Your Wi-Fi Network

Change your Wi-Fi network’s default name and password. Use strong encryption (like WPA3) to protect your network from unauthorized access.

Educate Your Employees

Your employees are your first line of defence against cyber threats. Regularly train them on best practices, such as recognizing phishing emails, avoiding suspicious downloads, and reporting potential security incidents.

Implement Access Controls

Limit access to sensitive data and systems to only those who need it for their job. Use role-based access control to assign permissions based on roles and responsibilities.

Use a Firewall

A firewall monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. It acts as a barrier between your internal network and untrusted external networks.

Create a Cyber Security Policy

A written cyber security policy helps establish security practices and guidelines for your business. It should cover password management, data protection, acceptable use, and incident response.

Monitor Your Systems

Regularly check your systems for any unusual activity. This includes monitoring network traffic, user activities, and security logs. Early detection can prevent minor issues from becoming major problems.

Plan for Incident Response

Create an incident response plan to prepare for potential cyber incidents. The plan should outline the steps to take in the event of a security breach, including whom to contact and how to mitigate the damage.
