In its early years, MacOS (The Apple Mac Operating System) had almost no malware and spyware targeting it. While this was somewhat due to the lower amount of mac users compared to Windows, Macs have traditionally been less prone to virus and security issues compared to Windows.

However the increase of MacOS users has resulted in more attackers targeting Macs. While the number of worms, viruses and malware in general is much lower than those for windows systems, the idea that Macs don’t get viruses is no longer true.

It’s worth noting that Mac’s have had some notable security bugs, and almost every update they release contains a range of security fixes, so staying up to date is just as important compared to a windows PC.
